WHAT IS PILATES?
Pilates is an exercise method that focuses on postural alignment and muscle balance throughout the body. Basically, Pilates aligns your head, shoulders, knees, and toes (you know the song!) and makes you strong where it matters so you can move better in everyday life. It works your brain, too, which is just one way it differs from other forms of exercise. Pilates requires mental focus and precision, making it as mentally stimulating and meditative as it is physically challenging. It’s this mind-body connection that helps turn the movements you practice in the studio into movement patterns that stay with you out in the real world.
WHY THE “KINDA”?
Classical Pilates is a structured practice with a defined repertoire of exercises, generally taught in a specific order and progression. Many classical teachers aim to stay faithful to the work Joseph Pilates originally developed. It's an incredible system and the foundation of my teaching. But as I found my niche as a teacher, I realized my clients weren't coming to me because they wanted to master Classical Pilates.
They wanted to get stronger for a sport or physical hobby, find a way out of chronic pain, or rebuild movement after an injury or surgery. Whatever brought them to me, Pilates was a means to a bigger end. That realization changed the way I teach.
That's where the "Kinda" comes from. I'm classically trained, but I modify exercises, change the order, and bring in strength training, breathwork, self-myofascial release, and other movement disciplines based on each client's goals and what I see in the way they move.
I'll bring this individualized approach to you. The real value of our fifty minutes together is how the work carries into the rest of your life and what you want to do!
